Papalaua Beach Park Is A Calm, Family-Friendly Beach
Stretching along Hwy. 30, Papalaua Beach Offers A True Maui Beach Experience!
Just south of the town of Lahaina, Papalaua Beach Park is a long stretch of calm, relaxing beach that stretches from the west Maui tunnel (first beach past the whale overlook parking area) to Olowalu.
Papalaua Beach Park is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. but you’ll often see overnight campers parked along the beach. Port-a-potty facilities are available at several location along the road, and there are trash recepticles and recycling containers also available.
Various spots have a few picnic tables under large, shady trees but they’re on a first-come basis and are often already taken when you get to Papalaua Beach.
Please remember to put your hot coal and ashes in the designated containers or in a safe spot!
Note: You’ll quickly see that cars can park close to the water’s edge. Be careful, it’s easy to get stuck in soft sand. Make sure you stay on firm soil.
Please do not stand on the coral reefs and try not to touch them either. The Maui eco-system is fragile and you can damage it easily with your feet and hands.
Papalaua Beach Park Suggestions.
- Take sandwiches, chips, drinks, and water with you. There’s no store or food place nearby.
- Bring plenty of bottled water to drink and also rinse your snorkel equipment.
- Do not drive into sandy, unstable areas of the park. It’s easy to get stuck.
- Stay for an incredible sunset. Papalaua Beach Park is an ideal sunset location on Maui.
- Consider a spot near or close to mile market 14.
Please be respectful of others at the park, and dispose of your trash in a proper manner or take it with you.
