Named for an early, nearby pineapple plantation owner, D.T. Fleming Beach is just off Hwy. 30 at Mile Market 31 on the west side of Maui. It’s considered one of Maui’s best beach parks, and was recognized as America’s Best Beach in 2006.
D.T. Fleming Beach is on the north side of the Ritz Carlton in the Kapalua area of west Maui. The park has a large parking area as you enter the beach park from the highway. There’s a clean restroom and shower facilities, along with picnic tables and a large grassy area for parties and weddings.
D.T. Fleming Beach is over a mile long, and has a sandbar that extends to the edge of the ocean. There are sea cliffs on both side of the beach park, with the calmer water being to you left as you face the ocean. A lifeguard station is located in the middle of the beach park.
D.T. Fleming Beach is well-known as a great spot for surfers and boogie boarders. Also, you can try some body surfing at this beach. There is limited snorkeling, with the best spot being to your right as you enter the beach area. Check with the lifeguards for the best snorkeling locations.
Go Early! The best time of the day to experience D.T. Fleming Beach is the morning hours. By 1 p.m. the waves start to get larger and rougher in size, often getting up to 2-3 feet in size. Later in the day, the surfers and boogies boarders will take over the middle part of the ocean once the waves get larger.

* If you’re planning to snorkel, talk with the lifeguards first. Stay close to the shore and don’t go very far out into the ocean. Snorkel with a buddy.

*Consider bringing hot dogs and/or hamburgers and having a picnic at a table with a grill. It would make a great beach day experience.
